What Is Alpha - Methyl Styrene

Alpha methyl styrene, colorless liquid. The melting point of -23.2 Deg. C, the boiling point of 165 DEG C, C 54.5-55 (1866.5Pa), relative density 0.9062 (25/25 C), viscosity (20 C) 0.94mPa - s, the refractive index of 1.53864 (20 C), the flash point of 57.8 DEG C (open cup), the ignition point of 573.89 DEG C. Soluble in ether, benzene, chloroform, insoluble in water. Easy polymerization under heat or catalyst. Explosion limit in air 0.7%-3.4%. Industrial products are usually added to 0.005-0.02% as a retarder for tert butyl catechol. Used as polymer monomers, such as Ding Jiaben rubber and high temperature resistant plastics. Can also be used to produce paint, hot melt adhesive, plasticizer and synthetic musk, etc.. In Japan, 90% of the alpha methyl styrene was used as a modifier for ABS resin, and the rest was used as a solvent and a raw material for organic synthesis.
